Jember Fashion Carnaval

This time I want to tell you about an annual event in Jember. We call it Jember Fashion Carnaval or JFC. Every year in August, people in my hometown always wait for JFC day comes. They like this event because they can see about six hundreds participants of JFC wear unique costumes and walk along the avenue. Only for this event, the avenue from PB Sudirman street until Gajahmada street are lined with people who want to see JFC parade. By one o’clock in the afternoon, the awesomeness of the parade begins. First all the participants dance in front of the government office before they start walking.

They perform the dance beautifully even their costumes are usually heavy. The photographers doesn’t want to miss this moment by taking a lot of pictures.  After that, the participants start walking and follow the police cars. The policemen in cars always lead the parade to make a path through the crowd. When the participants finally come, the people take a pictures too. Sometimes they ask them to turn around so they can take a picture. After about 5 pm, the parade passes by and JFC day ends.

These are some pictures of JFC 2011. I took them two years ago. I hope you can enjoy it!

    • Thanks Jean for stopping by!
Every year in July or August there is BBJ program that involves chronicle events and JFC is one of them. The purpose itself is to make Jember as tourist attraction to gain government income. Besides, it shows the various cultures that Indonesia have because every year one of the themes is about Indonesia. For example there was “Archipelago Bali” themes in 2006, “Archipelago Borneo” in 2007, and soon. It may looks like Mardi Gras. And this year this event will be held in three days. πŸ™‚

they are creative indeed. Among those participants, they have their own costumes that’s different with others. they also make their costumes from recycled materials but still look gorgeous.
